Food for Life
Project by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness
Since the beginning of February we registered 51 new individuals and the average meals distributed was maintained approximately the same as before – 70 meals a day. We received a lot of positive feedback from our service users, such as: “Less stressed [about food insecurity] and good interaction which supports mental health” (Justin Crimmins)
Receiving the grant helped put the Food For Life project on a much more solid financial basis, giving us “room to breathe” and look towards expanding the operation. Currently we are in discussion with the landlord of the Capitol Shopping Centre to get a separate location for our Food For Life hub, which would allow us to extend the service times from 09:00-12:00 to 09:00-17:00. The extended opening hours would give those facing hardship more flexibility to access free food and give us more opportunity to engage volunteers.
