Andrew Templeton, Chief Executive of YMCA Cardiff Group, said:
“George Williams House signifies an important step for the YMCA in supporting Cardiff Council to break the cycle of homelessness in the city.
Formerly a theatre and sports hall, the project contains 18 self-contained apartments, developed with the aim to create more move on opportunities for YMCA service users.
The apartments will be offered to those in employment in the first instance and will allow our service users to build on their independent living skills. The 18 apartments received referrals on opening and already, the development is full. Our team have supported each service user to transition from hostel living.
This building was formally opened on 11th February 2022 by Councillor Lynda Thorne.
The YMCA would like to thank the 1910 Trust for their continuing support, especially with the redevelopment of an underutilised space and providing necessary capital funding to ensure the project did not stall. Our team and service users are incredibly grateful.”
