Amazing Grace Spaces
Established in 2017, Amazing Grace Spaces provides supported accommodation for up to nine females aged 19-60 who have experienced issues with substance and alcohol misuse.
Our accommodation is a lifeline for vulnerable homeless women in Newport, offering a stable nurturing environment where they can rebuild their lives. We support individuals facing challenges such as social exclusion, mental health, substance misuse and homelessness. Our supported accommodation provides not only a roof over their heads but but also a pathway to recovery and independence.
Eastern Valley Foodbank
Eastern Valley Foodbank is an independent charity, established in 2013, to relieve food poverty and hardship across Torfaen and surrounding areas in South Wales. Operating as part of the Trussell network, we provide emergency food support, alongside a wide range of practical and wellbeing services designed to address the root causes of poverty and crisis.
Our core aim is not only to feed people in crisis, but to restore dignity, resilience and hope by helping individuals and families move towards greater stability and self-sufficiency. Our objectives closely align with The 1910 Trust’s priorities through improving quality of life for vulnerable individuals and communities, promoting inclusivity, supporting those facing homelessness or financial hardship, and improving mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.
Gwaun Cae Gurwen Foodbank
Gwaun Cae Gurwen Foodbank, Early Help and Warm Hub is a community-based organisation dedicated to supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, financial hardship, fuel poverty, social isolation, and other challenges affecting their wellbeing. Our aim is to provide practical support, early intervention, advice, and signposting services while creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where people can access help with dignity and respect. We work to reduce crisis situations, improve wellbeing, strengthen community resilience, and help people access the support they need to improve their circumstances.
Markham Miners’ Welfare Scheme
The aim of our charity is to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for local residents to meet, learn, access support, enjoy social and recreational activities, and celebrate together. For many, particularly those living in hardship or isolation, it is the only place where they feel truly connected and cared for.
Originally established as a social space for coal miners over 60 years ago, Markham Institute has been a long-standing, trusted community facility serving the village and surrounding rural areas. Run entirely by volunteers, it is governed by a management committee of 3 trustees and supported by around 20 local volunteers. This ensures services are accountable, responsive, and shaped by local need. The charity has a proven track record of effective governance, sustaining the facility, and managing funding to deliver its services.
Prison Fellowship
Prison Fellowship equips volunteers to bring hope and restoration to people in prison, victims, families and communities affected by crime. In South Wales, our volunteers are active in HMP Cardiff, HMP Parc and HMP Swansea, where we run Angel Tree, and relationship-focused programmes throughout the year.
What makes us distinctive is the depth and dependability of the relationships we build. Unlike one-off interventions, our volunteers show up consistently, building trusted, long-term connections that bridge the gap between prison and community. This local presence is part of a wider network of nearly 2,000 volunteers, supported by a staff team of 15, working across the prison estate in England and Wales.
Shadows Depression Support Group
Shadows Depression Support Group and the Shadows Wellbeing Centre is a not‑for‑profit, community‑based organisation providing immediate, accessible and trauma‑informed support for people across South Wales who are experiencing mental health challenges, physical health conditions, social isolation, or complex life pressures. For over nine years, Shadows has been a trusted, inclusive lifeline for individuals and families who often fall between gaps in statutory provision or face long waiting times for support.
At the heart of our work is the Shadows Wellbeing Centre, a safe, welcoming and fully accessible space where people can walk in without referrals, assessments or barriers. Our model ensures that vulnerable individuals can receive support at the moment they need it, rather than waiting weeks or months. This approach is particularly vital for people living with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, arthritis, MSK conditions, fatigue, trauma, and mobility challenges.
Tiger Bay Boxing
Tiger Bay and the World is a Butetown-based charity working to improve the lives of young people and families in one of the most diverse and deprived communities in Wales. We use boxing and structured physical activity to build discipline, confidence, fitness and mental wellbeing, giving young people a safe and positive place to spend their time and diverting them away from antisocial behaviour and street risk. Our work is rooted in the belief that every young person in Butetown deserves the chance to grow in mind, body and spirit, whatever their background or income. We work primarily with young people across Butetown, Grangetown, Riverside and surrounding areas of south Cardiff, many from BAME and migrant backgrounds and from households facing hardship. Butetown records child poverty of 48% (Cardiff Council), which is why our provision is free or low cost at the point of access. We currently reach approximately 78 young people, with an average of 38 attending each week.
