“Over the past three months, we have seen significant success in delivering our core projects. On the 4th of August, we completed our first core community regeneration project of 2023 in Melincourt. Through the project, we supported 30 local people to gain skills, achieve qualifications, improve their wellbeing and connect with others in their community. Of these 30, 11 achieved one or more qualifications. We have not yet gathered our full progression statistics on this project as it has just recently finished, but I will include these in the next quarterly review.
The end date for our Melincourt project was pushed back due to unforeseen building complications and this has resulted in the start date for our next project being delayed. Where before we estimated July 2023, we can now more accurately predict that the project will start in October 2023, shortly before which we will purchase PPE and clothing using our 1910 grant.
We have already made significant progress in our preparations for this project. Most importantly, we have procured an empty, derelict property. The property is in Treherbert, Rhondda Cynon Taff and only requires a small amount of preparation work before it is safe and suitable for participants to start. We are particularly excited about this project as it will be our first in RCT and thus we will be able to support a new community and link up with partner organisations who we have not worked with before.
Aside from our core projects, we are excited to be launching Sustaining a Legacy, our new project funded by the TNLCF Sustainable Steps programme which will run alongside our core project delivery. Sustaining a Legacy will support local people in Swansea to learn new skills, achieve qualifications, improve their wellbeing, engage with climate action and connect with their community through the sustainable regeneration of a disused empty property in the area. The project is due to start in September, will take place over a year and will support approximately 70 people from a variety of disadvantaged backgrounds. It will be open to anyone over the age of 16.
Below I have included a few pictures from our final weeks in Melincourt, as well as of the new project house in Treherbert. In November I will submit our second quarterly review, detailing the launch and progress of our Treherbert project.
Thank you again to all the trustees for their ongoing support!”
