St. Catherines Gorseinon
St Catherine’s Gorseinon is making its Hall available as a community resource in order to bring people of all ages and social backgrounds together to help the community restore its sense of place in a post-industrial community blighted by social isolation, food poverty, anti- social behaviour, debt, deteriorating mental health and lack of safe social spaces to congregate. St Catherine’s is governed by a board of trustees to whom the project leader, Rev Dr Adrian Morgan reports. Having spent 1,500,000 renovating our Hall which will reopen in March 2026. Our renovation and repurposing of the Hall responds directly to what the local community identified it needs, as laid out in our Big Conversation survey.
Wild Rhythm CIC
Wild Rhythm is a nature-connection and wellbeing organisation dedicated to making the therapeutic benefits of the outdoors accessible to the most marginalised communities in South Wales. Our primary aim is to build emotional resilience, self-efficacy, and social connection through immersive nature experiences. We combine traditional bushcraft skills with innovative sensory sound technology to engage those who face significant barriers to access, specifically focusing on disability, mental health, and social deprivation. We support approximately 200-300 beneficiaries annually across Cardiff and the Valleys. We connect EVERYONE to nature with our key client groups including young people, disabled children, adults and those with mental health challenges to name a few.
Mental Health Football in Wales
MHFW began during lockdown as an online support group after the tragic, preventable suicide of a young man. To tackle isolation and mental health stigma, our founder, along with friends of the young man decided to create a charity that’s fully owned and delivered by members with lived experience of mental health across Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot. We support anyone aged 16+ who is experiencing homelessness or recovering from mental health challenges.
KPC Youth & Community
Since its inception in 1998, KPC has consistently made a meaningful impact on the community each year. We are open for young people ages 5 – 25. on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We compile an impact report detailing the number of young individuals engaged at the centre, what activities we offered, the total volunteer hours contributed, and how funds are allocated. We also carry out consultations with young people, monitor and evaluate our activities and workshops.
Fiery Jacks
Fiery Jacks CIC is a Cardiff-based community organisation delivering accessible creative, physical and play-based activities for children and young people. Our core aims are to improve wellbeing, confidence and inclusion through activities such as circus and cycle-based play, particularly for young people from low-income backgrounds or who are otherwise under-served by mainstream provision. We regularly work with children and families across Cardiff, engaging an average of 500 young people in activities including holiday playwork, festivals, workshops and community events. Our team includes experienced practitioners and facilitators, supported by volunteer trustees.
Craftaholics Cymru
We are a Welsh community charity. The function of our group is to provide a safe meeting place (currently the Pendragon Pub in Thornhill) to tackle social isolation, provide stimulation and interest for those with time on their hands (retirement, unemployment, illness or disabilities) for like minded people to come together, make friends and learn new skills or pass their skills onto others. We help our members reach their potential by teaching them various crafts which they do in abundance many of which are donated to other Welsh charities e.g. Heath Hospital, Neo Natal Unit, Ty Hafan, Salvation Army, Grow Baby, Baby Banks in Cardiff and Caerphilly, Toy Box, and many other charities. This act of donating to help others gives our members a sense of pride and self-worth. We meet on a regular basis every Monday afternoon between 1-4pm (including Bank holidays). We also include other activities which take place outside of those times, e.g. lunches, brunches in the city and Sunday lunches all taking place monthly at different venues.
HCPT Group
The group is made up of members who have responded to the needs of children in and around Newport, Cardiff and wider surrounding valleys for many years. Our group members are a mix of individuals of all ages, skills and professions, including medical, teaching, caring, and social backgrounds, and others who simply roll up their sleeves and ‘get stuck in’. New members are always made welcome.
Every year we work tirelessly to raise sufficient income through fundraising events and from charitable donations to enable us to take 8 to 10 local children to Lourdes in the South of France at Easter. The cost of taking a child is over £1400, although it’s not uncommon for this figure to rise if we need to purchase other essential items such as passports, suitcases, clothing and personal care. No expense is incurred by the family of any child we take and all HCPT group 99 helpers pay their own fares. The children we take come from all walks of life and the needs of these children can be many and varied. Those needs could be cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical or a combination of all.
